What is Photostability?
Photostability is the ability to stabilize under sunlight protection, this process is a key factor in sunscreen protection efficacy. Photostability means the sunscreen will maintain a UVA and UVB protective barrier when exposed to the sun. It has a highly absorbent barrier which will protect for a longer length of time and not degrade as quickly as other filters.
What is Mexoryl®XL and how does it work?
Mexoryl®XL(International filter) is an exclusive Photostable sun filter. Mexoryl®XL is liposoluble (oil soluble), this is what makes this an exclusive Photostable sun filter. It maintains a UVA and UVB highly absorbent protective barrier for a longer period of time and therefore degrade much less quickly than other filters.
Mexoryl®SX (Sold in the US) is hydrosoluble (water soluble) and therefore is not as effective as a sole
sun filter.
The combination of the Mexoryl®XL and the Mexoryl ®SX provides a perfect distribution of the filter’s properties and creates a synergy that reinforces UVA and UVB protection. Therefore, the Anthelios XL cream is an emulsion made with an aqueous phase as well as an oil phase. The benefit is that this combination creates a true protective barrier against both UVA as well as UVB rays and their harmful effects on the skin.
In Summary, Mexoryl ®XL is an exclusive filtering system that was developed by La Roche-Posay for its Anthelios XL Suncare Line. To date, 21 clinical trials have shown how well it performs in the fight against damage caused or aggravated by UV rays. These trials have been published in numerous International Scientific Journals. New data has recently emerged proving once again Anthelios XL’s technological edge in the field of sun protection. This new data has recently been published in the top International Review of Dermatological Research - the Journal of Investigative Dermatology – (JID).
